Well, how many is too many? 100? 500? 1000? How many dog breeders even have more than two dozen breeding bitches? I think, on reflection, that 50 is far from a norm in any case, but an extreme upper limit.
Caring for more than two dozen dogs & their puppies takes a lot of work; a lot of staff. If you have the personnel to do it properly, you have the personnel to split your operation between them & make it multiple operations.
