You sometimes hear about people mistaking a planet (esp. Venus) for a UFO. I'm more likely to mistake a UFO for a planet. I was walking south down the street & saw a red light low in the sky ahead. "Is the ecliptic that low?" I thought. Looked up, no, there's the moon, there's Jove, the ecliptic is definitely higher. Not sure it gets that low at this latitude. Arcturus maybe? That seemed wrong at this time of year. So I stopped & watched. The thing moved. Eventually dimmed as it was no longer pointing its light so much at me, & then I could see it flash. Helicopter I think.
